June 14th is Flag Day!

ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO: On June 14, 1920, Grandma Loni was born was born in Hemsbach, Germany.

Coming to America

THREE YEARS LATER

In June, 1923 her family boarded a ship called "S.S.Seydlisz" and headed for the United States of America where they would start a new life. Her Uncle Rudy and his wife, Marie were on the same ship with them.

Loni, had fond memories of that trip even though she was only three years old. She remembered the stewards, who wore white outfits and enjoyed playing with her. Apparently, she was outgoing and friendly even at that young age.

They arrived at Ellis Island on June 14, 1923.
It was Flag Day and Loni's third birthday.
Gus told his daughter that all the flags were flying to celebrate her arrival to the United States.
What a welcoming this little girl got on that day!

SOON AFTER: 3 years old and in the U.S.
